Audio to MP3 Converter
M4A, WebM, MP4, MOV, OGG or FLAC to MP3, or record straight to MP3.
How It Works
Choose an audio or video file, or record your voice. The browser decodes the sound with its own built-in decoders, and the MP3 is encoded on your device with the LAME encoder. Play it back, then download it. No file is uploaded to a server, and there's nothing to install.
What It Converts
| File | Where it usually comes from |
|---|---|
| .m4a | iPhone Voice Memos, Android recorders, iTunes purchases without DRM |
| .webm | Recordings made in Chrome or on a Chromebook, and some screen recordings |
| .mp4, .mov | Videos from phones, Zoom and Teams recordings (only the sound is kept) |
| .ogg, .opus | WhatsApp and Telegram voice notes, Linux and Android apps |
| .flac, .wav | Lossless music and studio recordings |
This works in Chrome and Edge, including on Chromebooks. Other browsers may not read every format. Two kinds of file can't be converted: WMA, which browsers can't decode, and protected (DRM) music from streaming services.
Record Straight to MP3
Click Record, allow the microphone, and click Stop when you're done. The recording is converted to MP3 immediately. That's handy on a Chromebook, whose built-in recorders save WebM or need a newer model, and for anywhere that only accepts MP3, like inserting audio into Google Slides.
Which Bitrate?
| Bitrate | About 1 minute is | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| 64 kbps | 0.5 MB | Lectures, meetings, voice notes |
| 128 kbps | 1 MB | Voice and most music (default) |
| 320 kbps | 2.4 MB | Music where quality matters most |
Converting to MP3 can't add quality the original didn't have, so a higher bitrate than the source mostly makes a bigger file.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert an audio or video file to MP3?
Choose the file, pick a bitrate, and click Convert to MP3. The audio is decoded and encoded to MP3 in your browser, then you can play it back and download it. For a video, only the sound is kept.
Which formats can it convert?
Anything your browser can play: in Chrome and Edge that includes M4A, AAC, MP4, MOV, WebM, OGG, Opus, FLAC, WAV and MP3. WMA can't be read by web browsers, and protected (DRM) music from streaming services can't be converted.
Can I record my voice straight to MP3?
Yes. Click Record, allow microphone access, and click Stop when you're done. The recording is converted to MP3 right away, ready to download. It's useful anywhere that only accepts MP3, such as Google Slides.
Why do my recordings come out as WebM?
Chrome and Chromebooks record audio as WebM by default, and many apps and websites don't accept it. This tool turns those recordings into MP3, which almost everything accepts.
Which bitrate should I choose?
128 kbps is a good default for voice and most music. Choose 64 or 96 kbps for spoken word when you want a smaller file, and 192 or 320 kbps for music where quality matters most.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser, so recordings, lectures and meetings stay on your device. It also works on Chromebooks and work computers where you can't install software.
Is there a length limit?
No fixed limit, but the whole recording is held in memory while it's converted. Files up to about an hour convert fine on most computers; very long files may fail on devices with little memory.
