Be careful with extreme boosts: pushing the level too high introduces clipping and distortion.

Will boosting the volume cause distortion?
It can. When the boosted signal exceeds the maximum level it clips, which sounds like harsh distortion. Increase the volume just until the audio is comfortably loud, and back off if it sounds crunchy.
