Ringtone Maker
Cut the best 30 seconds of a song, add fades, and download an MP3 ringtone.
How It Works
Your browser decodes the song with the Web Audio API. You pick where the ringtone starts and how long it lasts, and choose a fade in and a fade out. Preview plays exactly what will be saved. Make ringtone cuts that part, applies the fades, and encodes it to MP3 with the open-source LAME encoder (lamejs). Nothing is uploaded.
The 30-Second Limit and iPhone
Apple's instructions for making a ringtone with GarageBand on iPhone say ringtones can be up to 30 seconds long. If a ringtone export is longer, GarageBand offers to shorten it automatically. So this tool keeps clips to 30 seconds unless you tick the 40-second option.
Browsers cannot reliably encode AAC audio, so this tool does not make .m4r files. The MP3 still works on iPhone through GarageBand, which is Apple's documented method. Read how to make a song a ringtone on iPhone for the steps.
| Phone | What to do with the MP3 |
|---|---|
| iPhone | Save to Files, import into GarageBand, Share → Ringtone |
| Android | Copy it to the phone, then look in the ringtone settings (menus vary by maker) |
Limits
Only files your browser can decode will open. Protected songs from streaming services cannot be used. Very long files take a moment to decode on phones, because the whole file is decoded before you can choose the section.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long can a ringtone be?
On iPhone, 30 seconds. Apple's GarageBand instructions say ringtones can be up to 30 seconds long and GarageBand offers to shorten anything longer. This tool keeps clips to 30 seconds by default. You can allow up to 40 seconds for phones that accept longer files, but those will not work as iPhone ringtones.
Can I make an M4R file for iPhone here?
No. M4R is AAC audio, and browsers do not include a reliable AAC encoder, so this tool exports MP3. On iPhone, Apple's documented way to turn an audio file into a ringtone is GarageBand: import the MP3 from the Files app, then share the song as a Ringtone.
How do I use the MP3 as a ringtone on Android?
Copy the MP3 to your phone, then look in the ringtone settings. On a Pixel, Google's help puts them under Settings, Sound and vibration, Phone ringtone. Whether you can add your own file there, and what the menus are called, varies by phone maker and Android version.
What do fade in and fade out do?
They raise the volume smoothly from silence at the start and lower it to silence at the end, so the ringtone does not start or stop with a sudden jump or click. One to two seconds usually sounds natural.
Which audio files can I use?
MP3, WAV and M4A files that your browser can decode, which covers most music files and iPhone voice memos. Songs bought or streamed with copy protection, such as Apple Music downloads, cannot be opened.
Is my song uploaded?
No. The file is decoded with your browser's Web Audio API, trimmed, faded and encoded to MP3 with the open-source LAME encoder, all on your device.
