Fix a Sideways Photo
Phones usually store a photo the way the sensor sees it and add an EXIF Orientation tag that tells viewers to turn it. Your phone, your browser and this page follow the tag, so the photo looks upright. Some upload tools, often for profile pictures, ignore the tag or strip it while keeping the pixels, and the photo appears on its side.

Why Rotate or Flip Images?

What format is the rotated image saved in?
PNG by default, named your-file-rotated.png. PNG is lossless, so rotating and flipping does not degrade the image quality. For photos you can choose JPG instead, which gives a much smaller file at 92% quality.
