How It Works

Choose a photo. The tool makes a square canvas as wide as the photo's longer side, fills it with the background you pick, and draws the whole photo in the middle. Nothing is cut off. With Full size the photo is copied at its original resolution, so a 4032 × 3024 photo becomes 4032 × 4032.

Pick 4:5 or 3:4 for a portrait frame, or a fixed width of 1080 or 2048 pixels if a site asks for a specific size. Then download it as a JPG or PNG. The photo is processed in your browser and never uploaded.

Square vs Cropping

Cropping a 3:2 landscape photo to a square throws away a third of its width. Padding keeps every pixel and adds bars instead. A blurred copy of the photo makes those bars look intentional; white suits product shots and black suits night photos. Full-size output for common photo and video shapes:

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make a photo square without cropping it?

Add space around it instead of cutting it. Choose your photo, pick a background colour or the blurred option, and the tool places the whole photo in the middle of a square canvas as wide as the photo's longer side. Download it as a JPG or PNG.

Will this lower the quality of my photo?

At Full size the photo is not scaled at all; it is copied pixel for pixel into the middle of the square. Choosing 1080 or 2048 pixels resizes it to fit. JPG output is saved at 92 percent quality; choose PNG if you want lossless output.

What are the 4:5 and 3:4 options for?

They make a portrait frame instead of a square. 4:5 (for example 1080 by 1350 pixels) is the tall shape Instagram has long used in the feed, and 3:4 (1080 by 1440) matches the taller profile grid Instagram introduced in 2025. A tall photo needs less padding in either than in a square.

What does the blurred background option do?

It fills the empty space with a stretched, heavily blurred copy of the same photo, so the bars blend in with the picture instead of being plain white or black.

Does the saved image keep my photo's location and camera data?

No. The square image is drawn fresh on a canvas, so EXIF metadata such as GPS location, camera model and date is not copied into the download.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.
